This part of Brickyards Wood was coppiced in 2008. Naturally regenerated Sycamore and Ash; abundant in Derbyshire, has been coppiced to provide firewood for the wood boiler at Haddon Hall. Some good young specimen trees have been left to develop with plenty of room and light. The coppicing has created a new woodland glade with plenty of light for all sorts of flora and fauna to develop in. The coppiced stumps will grow strong new shoots which will be coppiced again in about 15 to 20 years time.

A Windhager boiler provides all hot water for Haddon Hall and is fuelled by wood from the Estate.

This pile of wood from the coppicing will be seasoned in the open air before being split into ½ meter logs for burning.
